Fire Prevention Friday

What an exciting Friday! Thanks so much to the Hanover and Elizabeth Fire Departments for coming out to River Ridge and sharing fire prevention tips. The third graders learned about how to develop an escape plan, to be sure to have two ways out of every room, how to stop, drop, cover, and roll, and what a fully-outfitted firefighter looks like. We even got to get into the ambulance and try out the fire hoses. Check out our video!

Dictionary Day!

Today was Dictionary Day at River Ridge! Every year Mr. Dwight Bischel from the Galena Rotary Club visits our class and very generously gives each third grader their very own pocket dictionary! Thanks so much to Mr. Bischel and the Galena Rotary Club! Here are a few photos of the third graders trying out their new dictionaries as they play some word games. Mr. Bischel asked them to find a 6-letter word, beginning with R, that has no vowels. Do you know what it is?

Relaxing Reading

The third graders have really been enjoying our daily Accelerated Reading time. And, they've also been doing an excellent job passing their AR tests - this program has really helped us concentrate on the importance of comprehending what we read. We are trying very hard for everyone to meet 100% of their goal by the end of the quarter (Oct. 25th). So, third graders, enjoy this long weekend, and read, read, read!
