BAKE SALE SUCCESS!!!!

Thank you so much for supporting our bake sale for the Fairdale tornado victims!!!!  Our totals are in and.....WOW!!!! We raised $550.87 at our bake sale!!!  A huge thank you also goes out to Ann Tracey and Walmart in Galena for partnering with us. They also held a fundraiser and are adding $220.00 to our proceeds, which brings us to a grand total of $770.87 to be sent to tornado victims in the form of gift cards from Walmart, Target, and Kohl's.  Amazing job, third graders!  We are so proud of you!!!

Time to Bake...Time to Buy...Time to Help Others in Need!

After hearing about the devastating tornado last week in Fairdale, IL, and learning that Mr. Buchs used to work in that school district, the third graders were motivated to find a way in which they could help those in need.  After a class meeting, we decided to have a bake sale for all of the elementary students on Wed. and Thurs. next week. The proceeds we earn will be sent in gift cards by Mr. Buchs to his friend, a principal in the affected school district. We need your help! We will be accepting baked goods on Tuesday and Wednesday.  The items that sell best are cookies, brownies, Rice Krispies bars, puppy chow, and bars.  If you can, please package these individually in Ziploc bags  In addition, we are partnering with Walmart in Galena for this fundraiser, thanks so much to Ann Tracy for coordinating these efforts and Walmart to contributing to our cause.

American Symbol Gallery Walk

After reading about the Statue of Liberty in language arts, the third graders have been researching it and other American symbols in social studies.  Working with partners, the third graders have researched Mt. Rushmore, the Star Spangled Banner, the Pledge of Allegiance, the White House, Ellis Island, the American flag, the Washington Monument, the bald eagle, and of course, the Statue of Liberty.  Then they created posters showcasing their research.  On Friday afternoon, we held a Gallery Walk with Mrs. Reese's class so that all of the students could share and explore all of these important symbols.

Friday Lunch with Friends!

The third graders surpassed their Brownie Point goal this week...by 10 points! The reward they chose was a fun lunch together in our classroom.

Hunting for Eggs!

Wishing everyone a Happy Easter and a fun, relaxing spring break!  Here are a few photos of our Easter egg hunt this afternoon!  What a fun, busy day!

Petting Zoo Fun!

Today we visited the FFA Petting Zoo!  We attended 2 education stations and learned about soybeans, corn, oats, wheat, and different kinds of plants.  We also got to spend some time with horses, cows and calves, goats, pigs, a peacock, bunnies, ducks and ducklings, a goose, sheep and lambs, chickens and chicks.  Then, the best part, ice cream!!!  Thanks to the FFA for this fun experience!

Beautiful Day = Extra Recess Time!

Way back last fall the third grade classes brought in more canned goods for the Servant Leadership Drive than any other class.  Our reward was an extra recess.  Well...we've waited all winter for a nice day, and finally we got it!  Here we are getting ready to play kickball with Mrs. Reese's class.

Loving our New Classroom Computers!

Since our computer lab received all new computers last week, we were lucky enough to receive two new-to-us computers for our classroom!  YAY!
