Today Emma shared her sweet new baby brother, Liam, with our class. He was the perfect gentleman as we passed him between students, some never having held a tiny baby before. The third graders had lots of questions for Emma, and they learned a lot about all it takes to care for a baby. Thanks so much to Emma and her mom for sharing Liam today!

Today we welcomed Katie Kruger from Scales Mound High School into our classroom. She is interested in becoming a teacher and spent the day hanging out with us. She even joined our Lunch Bunch group and helped students out with homework. Thanks for your help, Katie, you'll make a great teacher someday!

Thanks so much to Mrs Nicholas and her freshman Spanish class! They joined our reading class on Tuesday to help us with the Spanish vocabulary in our latest story, "I Love Saturdays y Domingos". The third graders really enjoyed this story, and with the help of the freshmen, learned quite a few new Spanish words, too!

We've really loved learning to use the iPads this year... And now we have a 2nd cart! :) In third grade, we've used them to practice math facts and concepts, study spelling words, review vocabulary, explore topics in science and social studies and reinforce reading strategies.

Friday was an amazing day at River Ridge! Under the guidance of Mrs. Bussan and her 5th grade class, we raised more than $6,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation! Students, teachers, and parents walked laps on the track and participated in a fun scavenger hunt all to benefit JDRF. Here are some highlights from "one of the best school days ever" (overheard in the 3rd grade hallway at the end of the day) :)

Our "Lunch Bunch" book club has been having fun reading the first of the 39 Clues books. We have had some great discussions as we follow the clues to try to solve the mystery. We should be finishing up next week...then we'll start a new group and a new book!
