A Little Info About AR...
AR is a computerized reading incentive program that allows students to read books at their own level and their own pace.  Students read from a series of selected books and then take a quiz. The program awards points based on the difficulty of the book and the number of questions that the student answers correctly. Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read. AR gives both students and teachers feedback based on the quiz results, allowing individualized goals to be set. Students will select their own books to read, making reading an enjoyable experience as they choose books of interest. Teachers and librarians helps students choose books at an appropriate reading level that are challenging, without being frustrating.

According to research, children who read at least 35 minutes per day, with a 90% comprehension rate (average percent correct) on AR quizzes, see the greatest gains. You can help at home by encouraging your child to read! When reading with your child, stop and ask questions to be sure your child is comprehending what is read. Reading with your child, no matter what age, is an important part of developing a good reader and building a lifelong love of reading and learning.

You can follow your child's AR progress at home by signing up for online access through our school office.  If you need a sign-up sheet or have any questions regarding AR, please let me know!
