A Sneak Peek....

We are getting excited about the Steve Moris concert and fundraiser at RRHS on Saturday evening. One of the items that will be available at the silent auction will be a beautiful one-of-a-kind work of art, created by the third graders.
Our Work in Progress....Check it out at the Silent Auction at the concert on Saturday evening!

Simple & Compound Sentences

Today in grammar we learned about simple and compound sentences.  By adding a conjunction, 2 simple sentences become a compound sentence.  Here we are practicing....

Homecoming: Wed. Edition

Today our classroom was filled with Super Heroes.  Our "Minute-to-Win-It" game  was "Face the Cookie".  Students had to move a cookie from their forehead into their mouth, without using their hands.  Much more difficult than it seems....just ask Gwen, Remy, Arthur, and Matthew.  But, finally, Dwight made it with one cookie!  A fun, but short, day!  Looking forward to the parade and pep rally tomorrow!!!

Homecoming week is off and running! The elementary classes are participating in daily "Minute-to-Win-It" games each day this week...today's game was "Stack Attack". All of our students will be able to participate in one or more event this week.  Today our class tied for the lead with the 2 5th grade classes, with a pyramid of cups containing 8 rows created by Hannah! What's Up in Reading?

We've been busy in reading class.  Last week we worked on sequencing, and the third graders worked in groups to create posters to show the sequence of events in our story of the week.  This week we are comparing and contrasting. Check out our fun super-size Venn Diagram below!

Honoring Heroes on Patriots' Day

Our social studies lessons this week focused on the events of Sept. 11, 2001 and what it means to be a hero.  The third graders were so thoughtful as they learned about the heroes of that day, and as they wrote about the heroes in their own lives.   We also created our own 9/11 Memorial in the hallway, with thoughts about heroes.
Our 9/11 Memorial
Finally the third graders really understood the message of hope that the following video shows about the building of the 9/11 Memorial in New York City. They asked that we share it on our blog....

Finally Friday...Time for "Move to Learn"!

One fun way to get everyone moving after a long week is to start the day with "Move to Learn". This is an awesome program that is based on the concept that when kids move at school, not only does their health improve, so does their academic performance.  The third graders loved starting the day moving, and I loved seeing their reading quiz & spelling test scores improve!  It was a great week in third grade!  Check out this video clip....
