Week 2 Tidbits...

Week 2 in grade 3 flew by! The third graders are doing a fabulous job adjusting to the new responsibilities of being one of the "big" kids in the elementary. Almost all homework has been completed and turned in on time, and planners are being filled in and signed.  Just a reminder that the third graders should be reviewing their math facts for a few minutes each evening, either by using an online program such as Xtra Math, or by using flash cards.

We're Already Reading & Testing for AR!!

The third graders are already busy reading, testing, and working towards their Accelerated Reader goals! AR has been an extremely successful program at River Ridge, helping students across grade levels to improve their reading comprehension skills. We encourage third graders to read chapter books at their own level, and to try to read for a minimum of 20 minutes each night. You can help at home by asking your child questions about their books, and asking them to retell their favorite part. Students should also strive to earn 85% or higher on each AR test that they take. Each week in the Friday newsletter, we will record your child's progress toward their point goal, and also their average percent correct on AR tests.

Off to a Great Start!

It's been a great two days in third grade! We've been very busy so far...we've already written our own newspapers, had a "snowball" fight, took 2 reading tests, practiced our math facts, interviewed our teacher, practiced an intruder drill, created a "masterpiece" in our hallway, and listened to lots and lots of rules and procedures! We've also gotten to know one another better, and helped make our two new students feel at home at River Ridge. It's going to be an awesome year in third grade!

Welcome to my new third grade students! I've been busy getting our classroom ready for the first day of school, and I can't wait til you all get here! I hope you've had a great summer! Here are a few photos of our room. I'm looking forward to seeing you on Back to School night next Tuesday at 5:30!
